Today we welcomed our 44th president of the United States. The day was bitter cold, maybe 25 degrees in DC, with the wind making it seem even colder. I have no idea what the First Family had for dinner tonight, or if they even had time after the long parade and before the 10 balls they are scheduled to attend, but we had a rich, warming coq au vin. The chicken was falling off the bone in a red wine sauce, surrounded by golden cremini mushrooms, tender carrots, and a little crispy bacon, all served on top of wide egg noodles.

Inauguration Day, and Coq au Vin
Today we welcomed our 44th president of the United States. The day was bitter cold, maybe 25 degrees in DC, with the wind making it seem even colder. Is Coq au Vin traditional on inauguration day? Lot of people seemed to be posting recipes for it. May have to try it! Yours looks and sounds great!
They are? How funny! I don't think there's any kind of traditional inaugural food here--I just wanted something warm, that didn't require all my attention, and that used up the red wine sitting on the counter. :-D
