Cinco de Mayo

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I put together a taco bar for dinner tonight. Warm cornmeal tortillas were topped with pulled chicken, black beans, fresh guacamole, crumbled queso fresco, chipotle cream, grated carrots, cilantro, and peach-mango salsa. I also made a grilled corn-red cabbage slaw that added more crunch and flavor.

Dessert was fresh, local strawberries dipped in sour cream and then brown sugar. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Jelly Bean Challenge Results

Today--before breakfast even--we had a jelly bean challenge. Somehow in our search for the right brand, Brachs, we ended up with five brands, but not the one we were looking for. We sampled jelly beans from, left to right: Starburst, Jolly Ranchers, Lifesavers Pastels, Lifesavers (traditional), and Kron. Overall, I think the standard Lifesavers and Kron jelly beans were the winners, though after that much sugar we were all in a bit of sugar shock.
